Downtown Savannah Vacation Rentals   by Caitlin Moore

Savannah is the lovely lady of the south. She is the flower in Georgia's hat, and serves as a vacation destination for anyone in search of history, warm weather, amusement, and the taste of something different. A trip to this languid locale would do anyone good, so take a look at all that Savannah has to offer and consider a trip in this direction sometime soon.

Culture is Savannah's forte, so come here with a mind to learn, explore, and be saturated in a long, proud, and distinctive history. One of America's first cities, Savannah existed as a seaport and center for development in this country's earliest days. Many famous people have left their mark here, as the architecture and historic landmarks can prove.

To properly appreciate the celebrated downtown area, take a carriage tour, a ghost tour, or simply walk around with your eyes wide open. There are dozens of designated points of interest, and you probably won't have trouble catching a few stories from the locals. To fully appreciate this rich and visually pleasing district, there are even a few vacation rentals that will open their doors to you and your traveling companions. Bet you've never stayed in a restored grocery store built in the 1800's that has been turned into a fashionable, urban apartment.

Being downtown will also keep you within a reasonable distance to other pleasing sights, like Forsyth Park, Central Market, and several museums, shops, and dining establishments. Spend the day adventuring through the town, and then return to your humble abode for a true retreat from the milieu. The rooftop deck offers expansive views of Savannah and the twinkling stars above it, so enjoy a nightcap as you relish this fabulous feature of your vacation rental.

If you'd like to venture farther away, perhaps towards the ocean, Tybee Island makes for a great day trip. Take a short trolley, bus, or car ride and spend a few hours basking in the sun, sea kayaking, and bird watching. This fun little place will whet your appetite for all things aquatic, and the pier and pavilion make for great people-watching opportunities. After you've had your fill of the beach, it'll be nice to return to the mainland for an evening of blues or jazz, and you won't have far to go to return to your quirky, cozy, condo.

The vacation rental itself might very well end up being your favorite part of this trip. When hotels are old, it's usually not a good thing, but when you're staying in a home that has been well-taken care of for the past one hundred years and renovated to accommodate modern needs, that's a whole other story. From the dishwasher to the jetted tub, you'll hardly feel like you're living in the past. A kitchen to cook simple meals, a fold-out couch, and a private patio will all make you feel at home and will erase any anxiety you may have had about finding adequate lodgings.

For larger groups, imagine being able to stay in a stately southern home complete with guest cottage and all the amenities everyone will need. Spread out at night and then meet back up in the great room for a morning discussion about what to do that day. The coffee maker, toaster, and microwave allow for quick breakfasts so as not to waste a minute of daylight, or if you'd prefer, just venture down the street and look for a charming café to get things rolling on a high note.

Experiences like this will define your vacation rental/Savannah experience; you'll have plenty of choices to make. And, being that the options will all look pretty good, your biggest problem will be how to fit everything in to the time allotted. With this in mind, you might consider lengthening your stay now, before it's time to head home to the daily grind.

Start planning now for the ultimate Savannah experience. There's lots to do and there are great places to stay, so consider a Savannah Vacation Rental, tell your boss that you'll be gone for a while, and start planning today for your exciting trip to the sweetest little corner of Georgia.
